St. Louis Auction Road Trip

It has been a personal goal to attend at least one of the Super Auctions held in the St. Louis MO area at the Belleville Fairgrounds. It’s a 4 1/2 to 5 hour ride one way, so it would be a long day of driving. I bailed on my first attempt to attend the auction this year after a detour to pick up Space War. (space war added to collection) The ride to pick up that game was three hours of agony as I had recently hurt my back. Driving another 3 hours to the auction with a final 5 hour trip back home just wasn’t going to happen. I was determined to make it to the November 22nd auction and after a lot of discussion (read coercion) back and forth with Pat Cooke (mongo), I decided it would be a good time to make the trip. Gas prices were down, Pat was going to let me crash at his place and I’d haul some games back for locals and they’d chip in for gas money. Luckily for me this turned out to be one of the best auctions in recent history. Lots of classics, a great preview Friday night and tons of picture taking. Check out Jeff’s site for the preview pics, (St Louis pics) I was too tired to post them myself! On the actual auction day, I took lots of pics of the loaded trailer *before* the auction, pics during the auction and a bunch of exterior shots of the facility. I had a blast, met some great people and filled that last remaining spot on the trailer. :-)

What was the most significant arcade item or two IYO that showed up the day of the auction that wasn’t there on preview night?

I only recall seeing one game come in late on the day of, that was a nice working Defender laying flat in someone’s pickup. If I would have had more space in the trailer it would have been an expensive trip for me. So many worth while classics!
