Nevada Magic rotating monitor cab pt 1

While looking for monitor flow charts, I stumbled upon this website that showcases a handful of amazing arcade cabinets with rotating monitors. Now I had heard about cabinets where the monitor can be rotated, such as the 19″ Dynamo cabinets, but they are nothing like these little beauties.

With the Dynamo’s, you have to pull the monitor out and remount it in the new orientation, which is a pain and the reason so many MAME builders either build two cabs, one large cab with an over sized monitor, or one of these wild auto rotating cabinets. The Nevada Magic has some type of mechanism that allows you to rotate the monitor while its still mounted in the cab!

Sure it still takes a little effort, but not much. What’s even more amazing is that it looks like the Nevada Magic cab is a commercial machine. Is it from the 90’s, late 80’s or some recent production? I couldn’t find any info on Magic by Nevada at KLOV or any of the usual sources, but it appears that these cabs are in Sweden, so maybe it was specific to that market. I would like to find out more about these cabinets if you have any information or more pictures, let me know. If you want to check out the website where I found the pics, please check out heffa.net, thanks and enjoy!

UPDATE: The flyer scans were sent to me by the site owner, Håkan, thanks! You can find them HERE.

I did some searching and found some info on a company called The Global Draw. http://www.theglobaldraw.com/ They have a cabinet called the Nevada Cabinet, perhaps this is the same company that made the Magic cabinet back in the day?

These beauties are mine, and here is the mail I sent to Chris a few moments ago:

I have managed to dig up some information regarding them since I
bought the first from an operator clearing out one of it’s warehouses
a few years back. The two others comes from other collectors in
Sweden, but they all originates from the same operator (Adonbolagen,
    the largest operator in Sweden).
All three is in such good shape that I suspect they have never been
out on operating at all :-)

My three cabinets are the only three I know of, and we (members of
arkadtorget.net, a swedish arcade community) have been looking for
    several years.

As far as I know they where made in Italy in the eighties, by a
company called Videognochi. They used to have a web page a few years
back where they showed off some cabinets looking exactly as my Nevada
Magic, but they where blue and called “Magnum” or something similar I
    think.
Unfortunately I didn’t save these pictures on my computer and the web
page seems to be gone now :-(
I’ve tried to contact this company a few times through mail, but never
got any responce at all. Probably because I tried to contact them in
english, and as far as I know italians usually isn’t that good at
    english.

I have however found a scanned italian flyer for my Nevada Magic
somewhere, and are including these in the mail :-)

Hope this little information is useful for you!

    Regards,
    Håkan

Thanks so much for the information Håkan, I look forward to seeing the Italian flyer scan and maybe even a few more pictures of the rotation mechanism? :-)

This is a cool little story, and I also like the fact that you can pull the monitor out and rotate it, instead of having an unnecessarily wide beast of a Mame cabinet….

But if they have been looking for awhile to find this rotating monitor cabinet manufacturer, it may be tough to find new information.

The only suggestion, which you guys might have tried, is to go to archive.org? Does that website archive international websites as well? Might be worth a shot if you have the original web address….

I’ll try to take some detail photos of the mechanism for you guys – you are not the first to be curious on how it works :-)

Come to think of it, I did take a series of photos of how it works for “my” community ( arkadtorget.net ) a few years back!
I’m going to try to dig up that thread and upload the photos for you!

  6. Heffa Says:

The old thread in the other forum was unfortunately deleted, so I’ll have to take new photos for you guys.
Give me a week or so and I’ll try to get something for you!

  7. Jeff R. Says:

    Awesome, looking forward to it…

  8. Heffa Says:

Just a quick update to let you know I haven’t forgot about you!
The pictures for how to rotate the screen will get here someday, I just have to try and find the time to take them…

  9. cnlmoore Says:

Thanks! I’ll be here patiently waiting.

  10. Heffa Says:

Finally, some pictures on how to rotate the monitor was sent to Chris a moment ago…
Sorry for all the delay :-)

Merry Christmas to all of you from me here in Sweden!
