Nevada Magic rotating monitor cab pt 2

If you were following my original post about the Nevada Magic cabinets, with the very cool monitor rotation mechanisms, then you’re in for a treat.

While I had done a little research to find out more about these fantastic cabinets, I couldn’t find much. There are flyer images online and some location images, but that’s about it. Thankfully Berg Håkan, the owner of the games in my first post, came through with a step-by-step description and some detailed shots of the cabinets, take a look!

1. The default horizontal orientation
2. Open the control panel (also lift away the cover glass, but no picture for that)
3. Release a security pin
4. Roll out the entire mechanism (wheels run along two extendable rails, so it’s really easy)
5. Release a second security pin
6. Rotate the monitor (again, there are wheels and rails, so it’s really easy)
7. Push the entire mechanism back into the cabinet

“All you have to do after this is put the cover glass back in place and close the control panel again.” What a great solution to the horizontal or vertical MAME question, you don’t have to decide between one of the other, you just rotate! I’ve never seen one of these cabinets here in the United States, but I’m keeping my eye out.

Nevada Magic cabinets on location in Italy

Thanks to MadsJ of slowcade for posting a link to the Nevada Magic cabinets on location in Italy. (Check out the previous post to catch up on the story.) The BYOAC link showcases a nice arcade in Italy where the NM cabs are lined up and have NEO GEO guts installed. Pretty cool stuff. There was another link inside that thread, if you took the time to read through it all. It showcased yet another Italian arcade that has what appears to be two player versions of the same cabinet. Or at least they share many of the same features. There weren’t any full size images, just partial shots. Here are the pictures, you can decide.

Nevada Magic flyer scans

A big thanks to Håkan for sending me the flyer scans of the Nevada Magic cabinet with the rotating monitor mechanism. According to Håkan, the cabinets were made in the 80′s by an Italian company called Videognochi. I did some research trying to find information about the company “Videognochi” and the closest I got to it was “video giochi”, which apparently is Italian for video game. I know zero Italian, so I’m not sure if gnochi means something different, or perhaps was a typo and should have been giochi. I’ll keep doing some research, but until more information is uncovered, at least you can enjoy the flyer scans.

The cover image has a Blade Runner look and feel to me, beyond that, the flyer layout appears to have been done by an engineer that was better suited to mechanism design! Regardless of the scary layout, the cabinet is still a great piece. It even comes with ashtrays configured based on the button layout! The next chapter of this story will hopefully include some detail photos of how the mechanism works, which I am anxious to see.
